NEW TURF TECHNOLOGY IN THE ALAMODOME

AUSTIN, Texas (May 1, 2009) - Austin-based sports surfacing contractor, Hellas Construction/Sportfield LLC installed their SoftTop™ removable turf system in the Alamodome at the end of April. This “roll-up” field was number two out of a three-field contract with the City of San Antonio who gets the option to install a state-of-the-art field every four years. `

“We have had great success with these roll-up fields,” says Reed J. Seaton President of Hellas, “not only does it provide a top of the line synthetic turf, but it also allows a venue to protect and store the turf when required and switch out surfaces, therefore maximizing the venues’ usage and event accommodation.” The Alamodome is a prime example as it hosts tradeshows, expos, motor sports and even the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in addition to a wide variety of sporting events. The “roll-up” turf system, allows the Alamodome the flexibility to have both state-of-the-art turf and our standard event programming which is vital to keeping the Alamodome viable,” said Jim Mery, Interim Director of the Convention, Sports and Entertainment Facilities.

After the initial installation, which took nine days, the Alamodome field can now be removed or put down in less than 72-hours.

The system in the Alamodome is similar to the new Dallas Cowboys three-in-one SoftTop fields to be installed this summer. The stadium is scheduled for completion in June of 2009 and will host Super Bowl XLV in 2011.
