About
June 8, 2009 - Heavy equipment will roar to life and work will begin a 10 a.m. Tuesday morning to prepare
for the installation of a state-of-the-art artificial field turf at W. S. "Bud" Leonard Field in the
Provost Umphrey Stadium at Lamar University.
Hellas Construction of Austin is installing the new "Matrix" field turf. Hellas was selected by

On Tuesday, Hellas will begin demolition of the natural field turf and will install artificial
field turf by August.
Hellas construction comes to Lamar University with many projects completed with the Texas
State University System, the University of Texas System and Texas A&M University. Hellas
turf installations include the Dallas Cowboys new stadium, the Alamodome and scores of
high school stadiums across the state.
In addition, the renovation and expansion of the existing field house and stadium will begin as
soon as the Texas State University System office provides notice of award. Completion date
for this work is slated for later in 2010, prior to the beginning of the official football season. A
new field lighting system is included in the renovation of the football complex.
