About
BERKELEY, California (August 31, 2012) - Twenty-two months and $321 million later, the Golden Bears return to a renovated Memorial Stadium. The construction project, slated to take thirty months, was completed eight months early, and among the upgrades to the historical stadium is the premier-quality Matrix® Turf – the same synthetic turf the Dallas Cowboys play on in Texas Stadium.
Due to the geographic location of Memorial Stadium (it resides directly above the Hayward Fault) it had to be upgraded to survive an earthquake. The field was lowered four feet to improve the viewing experience for fans in lower sections, and in addition to seeing the action, those fans will now see what Cal players and management are raving about – the new turf.
Josh Hill, Cal’s Safety, commented, “I've never been on a field like that. I love the turf. I love everything about it."
Hellas Sports Construction developed Matrix Turf to provide an exceptional playing experience in every aspect of the game – from control and cushion, to response, safety and even the natural look of the artificial grass.
Cal’s opening game against Nevada kicks off at 12:00 p.m. (PT) and will be televised on Pac-12 Networks. A limited number of tickets are available at: http://www.calbears.com/tickets/cal_football.html
Matrix Turf is exclusively available through Hellas Sports Construction.
