SAN ANGELO, TX--(Marketwired - June 24, 2013) - The future home of Angelo State University's Rams will be renamed after 1st Community Federal Credit Union. This comes after the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents approved the 1.2 million dollar project to make way for Hellas Sports Construction to begin work. 1st Community Federal Credit Union made a generous contribution to the school to make this possible.
"This is a significant step forward in the continued development of our outdoor facilities," said ASU Director of Athletics Sean Johnson. "I cannot thank enough all of the donors that made this project possible. Not only will it ensure the ability to conduct safe and efficient practices for our teams, but it also will save water and maintenance by eliminating a grass field."
Hellas Sports Construction will install a new Matrix® Turf field and epiQ TRACKS™ track system. The comprehensive scope on the project includes the repositioning of the field events, and installing a multipurpose synthetic turf field used for intramurals and other student activities.
"It is going to make such a difference aesthetically," head track and field coach James Reid said. "Our facility is already great, but this will just add to the 'wow' factor when kids come and visit our stadium. I am also excited about the functionality as it will provide a better surface for us with some of our fall conditioning workouts, when we have been on grass typically. The moving of the long and triple jump, pole vault runways and javelin apron will put them in a more 'viewer' friendly location, which will enhance the atmosphere during home track meets."
Will Wagner, head football coach, "We are extremely excited to be able to add turf to the LeGrand Sports Complex. The Ram football program will see tremendous benefits in both safety and recruiting. The new surface will reduce the possibility of injury and be a great enhancement to the LeGrand Sports Complex. None of this would have been possible without the help of some great supporters around Texas and here in San Angelo."
October 1, 2013 is set for the official re-grand opening.
