The University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Caniglia Field Earns Elite FIFA 2-Star Certification

Omaha, Nebraska (June 5, 2014) – The roars of the high-spirited fans of UNO's Mavericks are about to get that much louder. FIFA, the international governing body of soccer, has just awarded the AL F. Caniglia Field with a 2-Star certification, making the Mavericks’ home field one of only four FIFA 2-Star Certified fields in the United States.

This prestigious 2-Star Certification puts the Mavericks home field on a pedestal by itself as the only NCAA Division 1 soccer field in the nation to earn 2-Star Certification, distinguishing it as the elite synthetic turf soccer field in Division 1 college soccer.

The FIFA One and Two Star certifications were formulated by FIFA to classify high-quality synthetic turf pitches. A Two Star field meets the highest standards and passes strict on-the-field testing for performance and safety. Since 2004, FIFA final round competitions and UEFA Champion League matches can only be played on Two Star certified synthetic turf.

The Caniglia Field features a newer version of synthetic turf, along with the recently co-developed Coolfill ® infill. This sustainable infill is a well-received product known for its great stability, temperature reduction, unique bio-mechanical characteristics, absence of abrasion, and shock absorption qualities. It features more natural playing characteristics hopeful to reduce turf toe and upper high ankle injuries, and is currently one of the preferred soccer systems in European soccer. It has been installed in over two hundred fields worldwide, including the first Seria A Stadium in Italy.

With the certification of the Caniglia Field and the unofficial upcoming certifications of California’s San Mateo fields, Hellas Construction will be accountable for the installations of half of the FIFA 2-Star certified soccer fields in the United States in 2014.

The Fifa Quality Programme For Soccer Turf— 2 Star certification is officially from May 15, 2014 to May 14, 2015.
