Angelo State Athletic Facilities Carry on Improvements

SAN ANGELO, TX (July 15th, 2014) — – Angelo State University has hired Austin-based sports contractor Hellas Construction for yet another project to install an $1.8 million intramural athletic field totaling 238,000-square-foot of matrix synthetic turf with a scheduled completion date of late August. The Texas Tech University Board of Regents authorized the use of the Revenue Financing System to fund the total project cost. The Revenue Financing System will be repaid through debt service with the Outdoor Facility Conservation Fee.

Hellas is currently installing new bleachers and lights, a new press box and ADA-compliant sidewalks as part of ASU’s $1.2 million renovation of LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field. Crews will soon begin installing the new 225,000-square-foot intramural field, which will feature Hellas’ Matrix® synthetic turf.

ASU and Hellas Construction began partnering for renovations four years ago. In 2013, Hellas installed a $200,000 epiQ TRACKS™ system and replaced the football grass surface with Matrix® synthetic turf, a $1.5 million project, thanks to donations by 1st Community Federal Credit Union, the San Angelo Health Foundation, Larry Clark and an anonymous donor. Hellas also replaced the softball field turf in the same year totaling close to $600,000. The facility was renamed Mayer Field after project donors Richard and Betty Mayer.

The first home game at the LeGrand Stadium at 1st Community Credit Union Field will be held on Saturday, September 13 against Western State.
