About
Washington, D.C. – (February 19, 2015) –
The U.S. Soccer Foundation, the major charitable arm of soccer in the United States, and Hellas Construction, today announced that in the first year of their partnership, they have provided a safe place to play to over 30,000 children in cities across the nation.
Through the U.S. Soccer Foundation’s Safe Places to Play program, both Hellas and the U.S. Soccer Foundation seek to transform the landscape of underserved communities and improve the well-being of children in those communities by providing safe play spaces. As one of the largest sports construction companies in the United States, the impact that Hellas has had on the U.S. Soccer Foundation reach has been immeasurable. From conception to execution, Hellas is a hands-on partner who provides critical funding to support three grant cycles per year and expertise to build safe places to play.
During the latest Safe Places to Play grant cycle alone, Hellas and the Foundation awarded close to $900,000 in grant awards to ten organizations in seven states across the country seeking support for field-building projects. These grants directly fund projects that seek to take unused urban spaces and create safe places for children to play and lead healthier lifestyles.
“Hellas is committed to the growth of soccer in North America,” said Reed J. Seaton, President & CEO of Hellas Construction. “With our turnkey operations, we are set to swiftly build and install first-class soccer fields, and Safe Places to Play all over the country.”
“We are extremely pleased with what has been accomplished with our partnership with Hellas,” said Ed Foster-Simeon, President & CEO of the U.S. Soccer Foundation. “The organizations we are able to support are critical to the growth of soccer and to the building of a healthier generation. It’s exciting to consider that we are just getting started.”
Since its inception in 1994, the U.S. Soccer Foundation has awarded more than $100 million in grant funding to non-profit organizations in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. To learn more about the U.S. Soccer Foundation, please visit www.ussoccerfoundation.org
