Iowa State University Gets Indoor Matrix® Turf Field and a Deep Clean

Austin, TX (May 6, 2015) — Hellas Construction has finalized turf replacement for the Bergstrom Indoor Facility in Ames, Iowa on Friday, May 1st. Hellas crews were onsite removing the existing turf and replacing it with Matrix® Synthetic Turf for the indoor year-round field used by the Iowa State University’s football, soccer, and softball teams to practice when weather does not permit, which was the main decision for the added structure and improvements.

In addition to replacing the facility’s turf, Hellas also used an O Clean O₃ OnTurf cleaning system to disinfect the recycled SBR rubber infill, once before removal and after the new field turf was installed. The OnTurf is a tow-behind machine that has been used as an organic cleaner for years. It is chemical-less and delivers a 99.9% reduction of bacteria and viruses such as MRSA, Salmonella, Norovirus, and E.coli. ISU chose to disinfect and reuse their infill in order to be more environmentally conscious.

With a national increase in synthetic fields, Hellas has made it a priority to provide the best product and educate the sports community on the importance of proper field maintenance to prolong the lifecycle and playability of synthetic turf.
