About
Austin, TX (December 21, 2017) –
Christmas will be a little brighter for eight families this year, thanks to the generous gift donations by Hellas employees through the Austin Police Department’s Blue Santa Program. Hellas’ Patricia Roy was the organizer of the Hellas charity drive, which she began for the company last year.
“This is our second year to adopt families through the program. We had an overwhelming response last year, so this year we adopted eight families, which is double what we did last year,” Roy said. Cards with all the kid’s names and what item they wished for were made and put in a basket at the front desk. Employees could then select and sign up for one or more children.
“Most of the cards were gone the first day,” said Roy. “There were Christmas wishes for clothes, toys, and baby dolls, but there were a few who asked for bikes and video game players.” About 70 wishes for gifts were granted this year.
“It was very heartwarming to watch as the gifts began to accumulate under the Christmas tree,” Roy said. “Employees bought way more than what the children wished for! There was barely enough room to walk in the main lobby once all the gifts were here.”
There was no shortage of volunteers to deliver the gifts either. The gifts were delivered anonymously by Hellas elves to all eight families in shifts over several days.
“It is quite rewarding to hear from the families that we have made such an impact on their holiday celebration,” Roy said.
In addition to the gifts that Hellas employees personally donated, Hellas Construction has donated a Christmas dinner to be delivered on Christmas Eve to each of the eight families.
