POND CREEK-HUNTER RUNS IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION WITH HELLAS FOR NEW STADIUM

Pond Creek, OK (May 1, 2018) – Pond Creek-Hunter Schools continue to strive for excellence, selecting Hellas Construction to install its Matrix® Turf with Helix Technology and epiQ Tracks® V300 track for its new stadium. The old stadium is being torn down, rotated, and rebuilt to accommodate the districts first-ever running track and new synthetic turf football field.

“We are land-locked,” said Superintendent Joel Quinn. “If we left the stadium as it was, we wouldn’t have room for a track. And, if we expanded it, we would be taking two streets out and blocking emergency services to the area. We decided to acquire the land to the south and rotate the field so we would only take out one street and have plenty of room for a track.”

Football is big in this small-town. This community of just over 1000 people doesn’t even have a stop light in the whole county. But, come Friday night, the whole community is in the stands supporting the home team. The eight-man football team is impressive too, making it to the state championship game four of the last five years.

“It’s the place to be when the kids are playing,” said Quinn. “The team is really excited about the new field. We did our research and know the quality Hellas provides. They provide the same turf to the Dallas Cowboys, so you know it’s good.”

The track team is also thrilled and looking forward to having a track to run on.

“It will be the first time we have ever had a track. As a matter of fact, the track team usually wears shirts to track meets that say ‘No track, No problem.’ We are going to have to get new shirts with new slogans!” Quinn said.

Funding for athletic facilities can be hard for smaller towns. The Pond Creek-Hunter School District recently finished building a new high school, gym, and safe rooms thanks to the community and bonds that were previously passed. The new athletic facilities are being funded, in part, thanks to 167 wind turbines.

“Most of the project is being paid for thanks to the property tax from the local taxpayers and the wind turbines on our school district properties. The addition of wind turbines to a district our size is very beneficial financially,” Quinn said.

Hellas Construction provided financing options to the district for the remaining financial amount to ensure the kids can begin benefiting from the new track and football field as soon as possible.
