Gilbert, AZ (April 22, 2019) –
Arizona’s Higley High School is dealing with the heat thanks in part to Hellas Construction installing the first ever Geo PlusTM Organic Infill in the Grand Canyon State. The organic coconut and cork fibers reduce field temperatures by up to 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This premium infill retains moisture aiding in cooling the surface temperature similar to how human sweat cools the skin. The organic material is 100% recyclable, containing no industrial or artificial components.
Higley Athletic Director Aaron Dille says that the coaches and players are especially excited for how much cooler the field is going to be in Arizona’s hotter months. The 18-year old fields have always been natural grass at Higley High, but it’s time for a change. “Grass eventually wears down each season due to a very busy year of football, band, soccer, lacrosse, plus track and field,” Dille says. “By the middle of the season, it is not in great shape. We are grateful to be adding a field that will be in great condition year-round.”
The Geo Plus Infill is within the Matrix® Turf, which looks and plays like natural grass. Absorbing energy upon impact, Helix Technology is designed to make each fiber curl, which secures the infill and prevents “fly out”. The Matrix Turf quickly regains shape and structure upon release allowing the field to spring up. Matrix Turf with Helix Technology is the perfect workhorse blend for multiple sports competition.
Hellas also installed a brand new Q3000 epiQ Track System, which provides a surface that is impermeable, poured-in-place, and installed in a multi-layered application. This high-quality track system is an environmentally-friendly product as well, made from eco-friendly, non-petroleum-based materials, which provide a running surface that is both durable and resilient.
Hellas Business Development Manager James Towsley says, “This deal, and others like it, will open up the market to organic infills that will help reduce the temperature”. Hellas Project Manager James Dixon is very excited that Hellas is at the forefront of this technology. Dixon says, “I am proud as a project manager of being an intricate part of the entire process. I look forward to watching the athletes play on a quality field that the Hellas team delivered to the High School and the surrounding community.” The project is two weeks ahead of its May scheduled finish date, which is perfect for a competitive edge.
