About
Irving, TX (February 15, 2019) –
Spring is in the air and the Nimitz Vikings are on the surface of Hellas Construction’s Matrix® Turf with Helix technology, which adds longevity to the field. The twisted Helix fibers add structure, strength and a better field performance. Say goodbye to bad hops and hello to outstanding playability and unbelievable appearance for both softball and baseball.
“The Irving Athletics Department is beyond excited to begin the 2019 baseball and softball seasons with Hellas Matrix Helix turf in place,” says Irving ISD Athletic Director Clint Roddy. The REALFILLTM infill at Nimitz is designed for durability, better drainage and consistent ball roll. Hellas offers high density, replaceable carpet with shorter pile height for high traffic areas where sliding takes place. Roddy adds, “Our student-athletes and coaches will truly reap the benefits of these premier playing surfaces.”
The Helix monofilament fibers installed at Nimitz are exceptionally strong and manufactured at the Hellas fiber facility in Dadeville, Alabama. The tufting process begins at the Hellas textile plant in Chatsworth, Georgia. The end result is a personable touch with character for each squad. Hellas installed the letter “N” logo in center field for the Lady Vikes softball team. The Viking baseball team received a custom halo with Nimitz emblazoned around the home plate batter’s box.
From start to finish, Irving ISD has been on board with Hellas dating back to 2015 when Nimitz had their on-campus football field converted from grass to Matrix Turf with REALFILL Infill. This feature still provides fiber support, energy restitution, enhanced shock absorption and rapid drainage. Along with a cushdrain®, an epiQ S200® IAAF certified track was installed at Nimitz high school as well. “The partnership with Hellas has been outstanding,” Roddy says. Hellas also installed Matrix Turf at the multi-purpose stadium in Irving ISD, which includes football, soccer and lacrosse games. Irving ISD high schools including Nimitz, MacArthur and Irving play outdoor varsity sports at this stadium.
