Woodburn, Oregon (July 15, 2019) –
The Woodburn School District knows how to win and decided to go all out for their championship soccer teams plus football and track at Woodburn High School. The Bulldogs will be playing on Hellas' Matrix® Turf with Helix Technology, which is the same type of surface professional teams like the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Texans use in their NFL stadiums.
Hellas’ signature Matrix Turf with Helix has Shape Memory Technology, which twists and strengthens each fiber for more resiliency. This particular Matrix turf minimizes splash out of infill and has natural shades of green to look more like natural grass.
The 5-Time State Champion Woodburn high school boys' soccer team is led by OACA 2018-19 4A Boys Soccer Coach of the Year Leroy Sanchez, who is a 2002 graduate of Woodburn. The Bulldogs boys’ soccer squad went 17-1 and won the Oregon West Conference Title with a 2-0 victory over Marion. The champs are excited about the changes below their feet this season. The GMAX Drain pad will add safety by reducing concussions and provide better drainage.
In the best interest for student health, the Woodburn School board unanimously voted to choose Ecotherm® infill over the traditional SBR crumb rubber. Ecotherm will keep the field about 20 degrees cooler than crumb rubber or RealFill™ as it is known at Hellas. Ecotherm is highly permeable and promotes water conservation because irrigation is not required. Ecotherm is also 100% recyclable and is made from vinyl TPU and cellulose fibers. The Pea gravel holds the system in place while assisting in shock absorption and drainage leading to superior foot stability.
The school’s track and field facilities are also under renovation. Woodburn is going from black to blue on their epiQ® V300 track surface, which will add to the excitement of this tradition-rich school. The entire project is designed, built, and custom-installed by Hellas Construction. Woodburn School District Director of Facilities Ivan Leigh said, “People raved about our grass field, but we saw the need to provide an avenue for multiple uses that would benefit the community as a whole and be more useful region-wide. This is the result of years of planning.”
Hellas’ Matrix Turf is well-known for its reliability and durability and the epiQ V300 Tracks are proven. The district also wanted a company that could handle everything from designing to building and installing the surfaces. Hellas Business Development Manager Justin Rose said, “I really enjoyed the design/build part of this project and seeing the ideas of the district officials incorporated in the designs. I can’t wait to be there for the opening of the field and track and to see the excitement of the student-athletes. Hellas is the official turf provider of the Dallas Cowboys and their practice facility at the Star in Frisco. Hellas is the preferred turf provider of the Houston Texans and their Houston Methodist Training Center.
