About
(March 4, 2019) –
The Mexia Blackcats have a rich tradition when it comes to high school football in Texas. The Red Block Letter "M" sits at midfield for the home crowd under a steel roof at Mexia to enjoy. Once a horse track and now a shrine to high school football in Central Texas, Blackcat stadium is home to the 1989 Class 3A state champions. Before Norman Cobb guided the Cats to that 22-21 state title victory over Vernon, other coaching legends like Ray Rhodes played football at Mexia. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award nominee Kelvin Beachum played at Mexia long before he wore the green and white of the New York Jets. A tradition of winning on the field at Blackcat stadium as Mexia keeps the tradition of winning with Hellas Construction.
