Canyon, TX (Sep 10, 2019) –
The Buffaloes kicked off the 2019 football season on Hellas’ FusionH XP2 Turf™ on J Ferg Field as West Texas A&M University defeated Azusa Pacific 35-16 in the inaugural game at the Buffs’ new on-campus stadium. “West Texas A&M’s Buffalo stadium is getting one of the best turf lines we offer at Hellas,” says Business Development Manager David Fisher. The FusionH XP2 turf is a combination of extremely durable resilient monofilament fibers of Matrix® Turf with Helix Technology fused for better wear resistance.
Hellas installed a Cushdrain® shock pad above the laser-graded drain stone foundation. The paved-into-place system is made of mega rubber and moisture-cured polyurethane, which adds safety for athletes by increasing the shock absorption.
Hellas also installed Matrix® Real M turf on the Buffs’ new soccer field. Matrix Turf fibers are manufactured at Hellas’ fiber factory in Alabama and are tufted at Hellas’ textile plant in Georgia. The fibers have a natural look and feel, providing a soft, yet strong, surface with a long-life span.
“The soccer field is going to play more like a grass field with the Matrix Real M Turf that we installed with a GMAX drain pad," Fisher said. The GMAX drain is a shock pad that also provides shock absorption, high performance and outstanding drainage for turf systems.
West Texas A&M has a long line of notable athletic alumni including NBA legend Maurice Cheeks, plus NFL standouts Mercury Morris, and Duane Thomas, who scored the first touchdown at Texas Stadium in 1971. Hellas installed Matrix Turf with Helix Technology at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys and now are the very foundation of the Buffaloes’ football program from the ground up. Hellas is the Official Turf Provider of the Dallas Cowboys and their practice facility at the Star in Frisco. Hellas is the Preferred Turf Provider of the Houston Texans and the Houston Methodist Training Center for the Texans.
West Texas A&M recently completed its seventh consecutive season as the top NCAA Division II athletic program in Texas and ranked No. 3 among more than 300 NCAA Division II programs in the United States. Buffalo Stadium is the first on-campus football stadium at WTAMU in 60 years.
