Navasota, TX (Aug 28, 2020) –
Navasota ISD board members awarded Hellas Construction the contract to complete athletic projects at the football, baseball, softball and tennis facilities at a special board meeting on March 2nd. Navasota Independent School District began the first phase in a series of athletic renovations in March and after 13 years, Rattler Stadium is getting a face lift.
"It was about a $7 Million project. It allows us to replace our turf at the stadium and replace the track at Rattler Stadium. Fix the elevator at Rattler Stadium as well. The only other component that we're doing as part of Rattler Stadium renovations is new video board, scoreboard, and sound system," explained Navasota Superintendent Dr. Stu Musick.
Rattler stadium’s turf was completed on July 8th with Matrix Helix™ synthetic turf and the grey track finished on August 4th. Navasota is also renovating other athletic facilities. This includes Major Play® Matrix Helix™ turf, new covered bleachers, and new lights at both baseball and softball fields; a new tennis complex with eight TPS® courts, four with lights; as well as new entrances and renovations to the restrooms and concession stands at baseball, softball and tennis.
Major Play®, a 2019 Best of Show award winner by Collegiate Baseball, precisely emulates natural grass and clay without the maintenance cost associated with both. Each area of the field is tailor-made for pitching, hitting, sliding, ball bounces and speed consistent with the best natural grass ballparks.
TPS Courts provide long-lasting, high-performance court surfaces. The eight post-tension concrete courts are extremely durable and will resist cracking.

“We’ve been extremely excited to play on our new Matrix Helix™ Turf surface,” said Navasota Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Casey Dacus. “We’ve been thrilled with Hellas as they installed an epiQ track, TPS tennis courts and Major Play™ turf at our baseball and softball fields as well,” added Dacus.
Navasota High School will be welcoming students back to school on August 31, which will include both on-campus and at-home learning options. Navasota ISD Athletes began practicing on August 3rd and kick off the 2020 football season at home August 31, 2020. The Rattlers won the 2014 Class 4A state football title 42-35 in two overtimes over Argyle at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
