Austin-based Hellas Construction will install another Matrix Helix® turf system in NRG Stadium for use by the Houston Texans during the 2020-2021 football season. Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation (HCSCC) and Hellas Construction renewed their contract following a successful Texans season and the team’s second straight division title.
“HCSCC is pleased to continue our partnership with Hellas Construction, Inc. and appreciate their commitment to improve youth sports facilities throughout the Harris County community” said Ryan Walsh, Executive Director, HCSCC.
“Hellas has proven itself to be a trusted partner over the last three seasons. They have provided the turf used inside NRG Stadium as well as in the Houston Methodist Training Center. Throughout our partnership, we have collaborated with Hellas to give back to the Houston community and we’re proud to continue this relationship.”,” said Greg Grissom, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development.
Hellas has been the Preferred Turf of the Houston Texans since it was first installed in NRG Stadium in 2017. This was the second year in a row for NRG stadium to host playoff games on Hellas Turf.
“Hellas Construction is proud to once again partner with the Texans and Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation,” reflected Reed Seaton, Hellas Construction’s CEO and President. “It has been rewarding to see our work and our products as the platform on which the Texans have built a successful program.”
The installed turf system will once again be Hellas’ Matrix® Turf with the patented Helix Technology, which consists of twisted fibers that incorporate Shape Memory Technology, enabling the fibers to spring upright after use, enhancing playability and preventing “splash out” of the infill material. The infill will again be RealFill™. RealFill includes a layer of dust-free, cuboidal SBR over a patented pea gravel ballast layer, which prevents compaction of the infill and improves shock absorption. Player protection is enhanced by use of a pad under the field.
Matrix turf fibers are manufactured at Hellas Fibers in Alabama and tufted into a triple-layered, dimensionally stable backing at Hellas Textiles in Georgia. The backing is fused with a polyurethane coating from Hellas Polymers in Texas creating an exceptionally strong tuft bind. Hellas products are protected by one or more patents, including 6,800,339; 7,838,096; 7,249,913; and 7,364,634
