About
Marshall, Texas (May 22, 2020) –
Fittingly, Marshall High School seniors are taking the first leap of faith as graduation ceremonies will take place on the Mavs’ brand-new Matrix® Turf football field installed by Hellas Construction at Maverick Stadium. Marshall ISD is going all out with Hellas, who is installing Major Play® synthetic turf at the Mavs’ baseball and softball fields. In addition to these three fields, a 120-yard indoor covered pavilion is also being constructed by Hellas, which will be the first of its kind at the high school level in Texas featuring synthetic turf with sports markings for soccer, football, baseball, and softball.
Marshall ISD is going with EcothermTM infill, which is made from recycled vinyl TPU and cellulose fibers. The uniquely shaped ecotherm granules pull moisture from the air to reduce field surface temperatures by as much as 20 degrees compared to a synthetic turf field with black crumb rubber. The ecotherm granules also provide better foot stability with no irrigation required, providing significant water savings.
Hellas’ Matrix Turf with Helix® Technology, coupled with the Major Play Turf, is redefining the field of dreams at this East Texas high school. “The students of Marshall ISD deserve to be at the head of the class and in very elite company with these upgrades to their on-campus athletic facilities that were in need of repair,” says Marshall ISD Superintendent Dr. Jerry Gibson. “This progressive thinking is why the Marshall ISD school board feels these upgrades will set the standard for high school athletic facilities,” added Gibson.
Matrix Turf is produced with Helix-shaped monofilament fibers, which are exceptionally strong and designed to bounce back after use, while preventing splash-out of the infill and reducing interference from the field. These fibers are extruded at Hellas Fibers in Alabama, then tufted at Hellas Textiles in Georgia.
Hellas’ Major Play turf precisely emulates natural grass and clay without the maintenance cost associated with both. Each area of the field is tailor made for pitching, hitting, sliding, ball bounces and speed consistent with the best natural grass ballparks. Hellas provides a customized solution for high utilization, functionality, and performance for all seasons.
Hellas is installing custom logos at the football, baseball and softball fields with the block signature “M” in white with a red Maverick steer head positioned within the letter M. Marshall will be in one endzone with Mavericks in the other on the alternating paneled football field. Mavs will be positioned behind home plate at both baseball and softball fields. Marshall High School chose alternating patterns for a freshly mowed look at both baseball and softball fields. Hellas offers high-density replaceable sections for the extreme-traffic areas, providing exceptional durability.
The synthetic turf system continues to be a big hit across America. Hellas is the official turf provider of the Dallas Cowboys and their practice facility at the Star in Frisco. Hellas is the preferred turf provider of the Houston Texans and their Houston Methodist Training Center.
