FARGO, ND (Mar 8, 2021) –
By the Fall of 2021 the only public high school in the Fargo metro area without synthetic turf on its football field will fulfill its dream. In 2019, a group of parents and administrators formed a turf committee and began a fundraising campaign to raise 1.3 million dollars for a multi-purpose turf field by February of 2020. Then the pandemic struck and fundraising was halted. Now, the turf fund committee has reached its goal. Davies will install a multipurpose Matrix Helix® Turf field with Realfill™ Infill beginning this summer.
Kristi Ulrich, Parent and former School Board member said, “We wanted a turf field so we could be equitable with the surrounding schools. We choose Hellas because of their excellent customer service, product and pricing.”
The funding of the field was assisted by donations in memoriam to Davies student Liam Garrett Medd who passed away on February 1st, 2021. Liam was active in Football, Baseball and Trap Shooting. From the Liam Garrett Medd Memorial page: “There was not much that Liam loved more than Davies Football. He was so excited for the new turf installation.”
Michelle Kuhns, Central Region Vice President said, “Working with Davies has truly shown me what a determined group of people can do if they set their minds to it. I am honored to be a part of this project and cannot wait to have this field ready for the opening of school next year. Sometimes building fields is much more than a turf field. This project has special significance for many different reasons.”
Davies High School Principal Troy Cody said, “Being involved in this fundraising campaign has given me great insight to the generosity that exists in so many different people. The success we had in meeting our fundraising goal was a complete and total team effort. The challenge we had was our limited Alumni base and the fact that a global pandemic was placed directly into the middle of our campaign. Our Alumni are paying off their student loans. The Fargo-Moorhead community has blessed us with their financial gifts, and it will positively impact our entire school community.”
Overall, a Matrix Helix® Turf field will increase students' access to outdoor spaces for athletic, co-curricular and educational needs. Davies High School’s new field will be able to host physical education classes and serve as the home for the school's soccer and football teams. In addition, the field will increase practice space for soccer, football, track, cross-country, softball and baseball, all while supporting community youth programs that require competitive green space.
Davies High School will be Hellas Construction’s second turf installation in North Dakota but first outdoor installation. Davies will join the ever-expanding Hellas family which includes eight professional football teams, over a hundred colleges/universities and thousands of K-12 schools across the United States.
Headquartered in Austin, TX, Hellas takes a turn-key approach to athletic facilities. Hellas owns and operates its own construction and installation equipment using its own crews. The firm also manufactures its own synthetic turf, track and court surfacing materials at three factories in the United States. These investments allow Hellas to meet the timing, budget, and quality demands of its clients without reliance upon third parties. With a full operational hub in Wichita, Hellas is well-positioned to serve Kansas and the Central Region as a whole.
