Jacksonville, FL (Jul 19, 2022) –
The Jacksonville Jaguars and Hellas Construction, “Official Turf Provider of the Jacksonville Jaguars,” have partnered once again as Hellas will be installing another Matrix Helix® synthetic turf system with Geo CoolFill® and Cushdrain® pad at the Jaguars’ new practice facility currently under construction next door to TIAA Bank Field. The all-new Miller Electric Center, a joint partnership between the Jaguars and City of Jacksonville, will include two outdoor fields and one indoor field. It’s scheduled to open next summer ahead of the 2023 season.
“We want to ensure our players have access to the best in facilities so they can continue to perform at their highest level,” said Drew Frick, senior vice president of development for the Jacksonville Jaguars. “Having Hellas as a partner ensures we’re meeting that standard of excellence by putting a safe playing surface and quality product in our new indoor field.”
The turf system is Matrix Helix with the patented Helix Technology over a Cushdrain pad. Matrix Helix turf consists of twisted fibers that incorporate Shape Memory Technology, enabling the fibers to spring upright after use, enhancing playability, minimizing “splash out” of the infill material, and providing a predictable playing surface. The Cushdrain is a paved in place shock pad over a laser-graded drainstone foundation, which will allow these areas of the field to drain better. Geo CoolFill is a USDA certified organic infill made of coconut and cork fibers that reduces field temperatures up to 40 degrees and provides a firm natural feel under foot.
The Jaguars’ rookies and veterans will kick off training camp July 25 in Jacksonville. Jaguars’ fans will get a chance to chant “DUUUVAL”, which represents Duval County that makes up the majority of Jacksonville, a bit earlier than usual this season as the Jaguars face the Las Vegas Raiders in the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio August 4 in the NFL preseason opener.
In addition to being the turf provider for the Jaguars and the Raiders, Hellas has gained major momentum in the NFL meeting the athletic surfacing needs of ten NFL teams. The NFL champion LA Rams play on Matrix Helix turf as well as the LA Chargers at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Matrix Helix synthetic turf was installed for the Texans at NRG Stadium in Houston. AT&T Stadium in Arlington is home to a SoftTop® Matrix Helix turf system for Dallas. In addition to the Cowboys, Texans and Raiders practice facilities, Hellas has also installed Matrix Helix turf at the indoor practice facilities for the Washington Commanders, Tennessee Titans, Miami Dolphins, and Kansas City Chiefs.
